Troubleshooting Album Photos: Loading, Replacing and Export Quality
Fix common Smart Photo Selection problems: photos not loading, storage errors, replacing or rearranging photos, soft preview versus sharp export, and low-ppi warnings.

Short answer
If a photo shows Image unavailable, click Retry; if it keeps failing, check your connection and whether the photo is still in the booking gallery. Replace a photo with Change Photo, or swap photos by dragging them in the mapping step. Previews are low resolution on purpose: exports render your originals at full size, so judge sharpness by the ppi warnings, not by the preview.
What You Need
- A photographer (studio) account with access to Album Studio.
- The album open on the same device and browser where it was created (projects are stored in that browser's IndexedDB).
- A stable internet connection, since gallery photos are read from the booking rather than copied.
Photos are not loading
Smart Photo Selection does not copy gallery photos into the album. It stores a reference to each photo and reads the original from the booking's gallery when it needs it. Most loading problems therefore come from the connection or from the gallery itself.
- 1
Retry the tile
A tile that shows
Image unavailablehas aRetrybutton. If a whole list failed withUnable to load booking photos., clickRetryunder the message. - 2
Check the connection
The message The photo could not be downloaded. Either the connection failed or the photo storage does not allow this site to read images (CORS). usually means a network interruption. Reload the page once you are back online.
- 3
Check the booking gallery
If you see “X” is no longer in the booking gallery., the photo was deleted from the booking. Before generating you may also see N photo(s) were deleted from the booking gallery. Replace them in the album before generating. Replace each one (see below).
- 4
Check the file type
Uploads must be JPG, PNG or WebP; otherwise you see
Choose image files (JPG, PNG or WebP).If an upload is already running, wait for it (Another upload is still running. Wait for it to finish.).
Storage and project errors
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Album storage is blocked by another open tab. | Another Smart Photo Selection tab holds the album database open. | Close other Smart Photo Selection tabs and retry. |
| This device is out of browser storage for albums. | The browser's storage quota is full. | Delete old album projects or generated files (the dashboard shows Storage used on this device). |
| This album project does not exist on this device, or it belongs to another account. | Projects are stored per device and per account. | Open the album on the device where it was created, signed in with the same account. |
| This browser does not support IndexedDB… | Site storage is blocked, often in private windows. | Use a normal window and allow site data for Smart Photo Selection. |
Replace or rearrange photos
Where you fix a photo depends on the stage of the album:
- In the AI selection step: each photo has
Earlier,Later,ReplaceandRemovebuttons. UseAdd More Photosto bring in frames, then regenerate. - In the automatic flow's mapping step: drag a photo onto another slot to swap the two, so nothing is placed twice.
Re-map in orderrebuilds the mapping from the shooting sequence. - In the editor: select a photo and use
Change Photoin the floating bar, the Properties panel or the right-click menu.Adjust Croprepositions it in the frame, andRemove Photo (keep slot)empties the frame without deleting it. An empty frame shows anAdd Photobutton.
There is no swap action inside the editor itself: to exchange two photos on a sheet, change each frame's photo in turn. More editing techniques are in how to edit an AI-generated album design.
The preview looks soft, the export looks sharp
Previews and the editor canvas use reduced-size images so the browser stays responsive with dozens of photos. Exports decode every original photo and render the sheet at its full size, for example 10,800 × 3,600 px for a 12 × 36 in sheet at 300 DPI. A slightly soft preview is normal. To judge real print sharpness, use Actual pixels (Ctrl+1) in the View menu and the resolution warnings.
Photos that would print below 200 ppi in their slot are flagged, and the Check before generating dialog lists them. The fix is either a sharper or larger original, or a smaller frame. Enlarging a frame or zooming a photo inside it lowers its effective ppi.

Tips
- Work on one device per album; projects are not synced between computers.
- Upload all photos to the booking gallery with
+ Upload to Booking Galleryrather than as temporary album uploads when you will need them again. - Watch the save indicator:
Saved on this devicemeans your last change is stored. - Export and back up finished albums; generated files stay only in the browser until you download them.
Common Mistakes
Deleting photos from the booking gallery mid-album
The album references gallery photos. Keep them until the album is exported, or replace them in the album first.
Opening the album in a private window
Private windows often block or wipe IndexedDB. Use a normal window.
Judging sharpness from the preview
Check
Actual pixelsand the ppi warnings; the export is rendered from originals.Working in two tabs at once
Two tabs can block each other's access to album storage. Keep one Smart Photo Selection tab open while editing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I see my album on another computer?
Album projects are saved in the browser on the device where you made them. They are not synced to your account yet.
What does ‘TEMP’ on a photo mean?
It was uploaded for this album or sheet only and is stored on this device. Temporary uploads are removed after the sheet is saved, and unused ones after 7 days.
Why does a photo look blurry in the editor?
The editor shows reduced-size previews for speed. Zoom to Actual pixels or check the ppi warning to see whether it will print sharply.
Can I recover a deleted album?
No. Deleting an album removes it from this browser's storage. Export important albums before deleting them.
