Software for photographers
Photo selection software is where a shoot becomes a decision: the photographer shares the photos online, the client marks the ones they want, and the approved set is recorded in one place. Smart Photo Selection is built for that client-facing step — online galleries with folders, Selected / Not Selected status on every photo, a submission that locks the set, and a ZIP download of exactly what was approved.
It sits after the shoot and before editing and album design: upload the booking, cull it, share one link, and let the gallery collect the decision instead of message threads.
The basics
A selection tool answers one question for every photo: does this one move forward? The software keeps that answer attached to the photo itself, so nobody maintains a separate list of file names.
Each booking holds the event's photos in folders — one per function or session — with a count on every folder.
Each photo is Selected or Not selected, with filters for either view and Select All / Unselect All per view.
When the client submits, selection, upload and delete lock, so the agreed set cannot drift afterwards.
Filter to the submitted selection and download it as a ZIP for editing, album design or delivery.
The same gallery link carries a face scan, so guests pull their own photos instead of asking you.
Cull before sharing, toggle client downloads per booking, and extend the photo period when work runs long.
Choosing
“Photo selection software” covers two jobs that are often confused. Desktop culling tools rank and filter RAW files on the photographer's own computer before anything is shared; online selection tools collect the client's decision in a shared gallery. Most studios eventually need both, at different moments.
Software on your computer scores sharpness, exposure and duplicates across the shoot so you remove rejects fast. The client never sees this step.
A browser gallery where the client marks favourites, submits, and the choice is recorded. This is the step clients remember.
Smart Photo Selection ranks a folder 0–100 with readable reasons before you cull — closer to an assisted first pass. See AI photo selection.
Culling output (flags, ratings) means nothing to a couple. They need photos they can open, mark and approve.
A submitted selection is an agreed list. A culled catalogue is not — it is still your working view.
If your bottleneck is choosing RAW keepers at your desk, start with culling. If it is chasing clients for decisions, start here — or with photo selection.
Decision guide
Compare tools on the moments that actually cost you time: getting photos in, getting decisions out, and handing the result to editing and albums.
Full shoots go up in folders with background progress and retry for failed files — not one-by-one attachments.
If choosing requires an install or a login, half your clients will stall. A link that opens in the browser wins.
Favourites alone are a wishlist. Look for a submit action that locks the set and timestamps the decision.
Selected / Not selected views, folder counts and a downloadable set — the artefacts of “which ones?”
Events mean hundreds of guests asking for their photos. A face finder on the same gallery removes that queue.
The approved set should flow into album design, not out through another export. See album automation.
How it works
Create the booking and upload photos into folders. Uploads continue in the background while you work.
Preview full size, delete rejects, optionally run the AI ranking so weak and repeated frames surface first.
Send the gallery link or QR code. Clients open it in a browser; guests get the face scan on the same link.
The client marks favourites, checks the Selected view, and submits — locking the set.
Download the submitted ZIP for editing, share it for delivery, or feed it to the album generator.
Who it's for
Couples choose across functions; the album starts from their submitted set. See wedding photo selection.
Organisers approve coverage while guests self-serve their photos. See event photography.
Every shoot as its own booking, each with its own link, selection and download. See the photographer workflow.
